When is the Best Time to Visit the Sacred Valley & Salkantay Trek?
The best time to visit the Sacred Valley and Salkantay Trek is during the dry season in Peru, which typically runs from April to September.
Dry Season (April to October):
This is the peak season for trekking in the Andes and visiting the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
Weather: Expect clear skies, pleasant temperatures during the day (ranging from 15°C to 20°C / 59°F to 68°F), and cooler nights, especially in the higher altitudes.
Advantages: Perfect for hiking and outdoor activities, as there is minimal rain and the trails are in their best condition. The iconic views of Machu Picchu and the Salkantay Pass are unobstructed by cloud cover.
Wet Season (November to March):
The rainy season occurs from November to March, especially in the Andes.
Weather: Expect more frequent rain, especially in January and February, making the trails muddy and more challenging. However, the lower tourist numbers and lush green landscapes can be a draw for some.
Considerations: We only take groups from March to December (January and February are not available due to the heavy rains, which make the trail unsafe).
