The best time to do the I Love Peru: 12-Day Adventure Tour is during the dry season, which runs from May to September. Here’s a breakdown of why this is the optimal time:
Weather
Dry Season (May to September): The weather is generally sunny, with clear skies and less rainfall, making it perfect for outdoor activities like hiking, visiting archaeological sites, and exploring natural wonders like Machu Picchu, Rainbow Mountain, and Lake Titicaca. Temperatures are cooler, especially in the high-altitude destinations like Cusco and Rainbow Mountain, but it’s more comfortable for trekking.
Rainy Season (November to March): While the rainy season can still offer a great experience, it’s best to avoid this period for hiking trips like the Inca Trail (including the Short Inca Trail) as trails can be slippery and some sites, like Machu Picchu, may be clouded over. The Sacred Valley and Lake Titicaca can also experience heavy rains, which could make outdoor activities less enjoyable.
Peak Tourism Season
High Season (June to August): These months are the peak of tourism in Peru, especially in places like Machu Picchu and Cusco. While the sites can be crowded, the weather is ideal for sightseeing and hiking. It’s best to book your tour and accommodations well in advance during this time.
Shoulder Season (April and October): These months offer a good balance between favorable weather and fewer crowds. You can enjoy pleasant weather while avoiding the peak season rush, making it an excellent time to travel.
Special Considerations
If you’re planning to visit for specific festivals or cultural experiences, you might want to align your trip with events like Inti Raymi (June 24th), a major Inca Festival celebrated in Cusco, or the Peruvian Independence Day on July 28th. However, these events can lead to more crowds and higher prices, so booking in advance is essential.
In Summary:
Best Time for Weather: May to September (Dry Season)
Best Time for Fewer Crowds & Moderate Weather: April and October (Shoulder Season)
Peak Season: June to August (Ideal for clear weather but crowded)
Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a history enthusiast, or someone looking to immerse themselves in the vibrant Peruvian culture, this 12-day tour offers a perfect blend of exploration, adventure, and relaxation.
