Best Time to Trek the Salkantay Route

We only offer our luxury Salkantay trek during the dry season, from May to October. This helps us provide the safest conditions, the best trails, and a great overall experience.

At this time of year, you’ll enjoy clear skies, steady weather, and great views of the Andes. It’s the perfect season for trekking and taking photos.

Why We Do NOT Operate in the Rainy Season (November – April)

The rainy season in the Andes means heavy rain, unstable ground, and more risk. This makes the Salkantay route much harder and less enjoyable.

  • Trails become muddy and slippery.
  • Increased risk of landslides and trail closures
  • Limited mountain visibility due to cloud cover
  • Reduced overall trekking comfort and safety

That’s why we put your safety and comfort first and do not offer this trek during the rainy season.

Recommended Trekking Options for the Rainy Season

If you plan to travel between November and April, here are some treks we suggest:

  • The Lares Trek offers a rich cultural experience and has safer terrain.
  • The Classic Inca Trail is well maintained and carefully regulated.
  • The Ausangate Trek is ideal for experienced trekkers looking for a high-altitude adventure.

Is This Trek Suitable for You?

This luxury Salkantay trek is a great choice for travelers who:

  • You should be reasonably fit and enjoy hiking for several days at a time.
  • If you’re looking for a high-quality trekking experience with plenty of comfort and support, this is for you.
  • Prefer a less crowded alternative to the Inca Trail.
  • Desire a deeper connection with nature and the Andean landscapes.
  • Value high-quality logistics, expert guidance, and seamless service.

Technical skills are not required, but due to the altitude and distance, you will need stamina, preparation, and a positive attitude.
