Qoricancha Expeditions is committed to responsible travel.

At Qoricancha Expeditions, we believe that travel is more than just moving from one destination to another,  it's an opportunity to make a positive impact. Each tour we operate is meticulously planned to safeguard the environment, support local communities, and safeguard Peru's cultural heritage. Here's how we put responsible travel into action:

1. Empowering Local Communities

We are dedicated to fostering meaningful employment opportunities for individuals from the Andes region. Our guides, porters, and cooks are all from Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and surrounding highland villages. They are paid fair wages, receive proper equipment, and work under safe and respectful conditions. Beyond employment, we source fresh produce from small family farms, buy equipment from local markets, and use regional transportation services. This app roach ensures that tourism revenue remains within the community, providing travelers with the opportunity to engage directly with the people whose heritage they are experiencing.

2. It is essential to show respect for different cultures and traditions.

The Inca legacy and Andean way of life are not mere museum pieces; they are living traditions. We encourage travelers to engage respectfully by learning a few Quechua words, understanding local customs, and appreciating traditional dress, music, and festivals. Our guides share stories passed down through generations, providing insight into the deeper meaning behind archaeological sites, farming techniques, and spiritual beliefs. This cultural respect is integral to preserving ancient knowledge for future generations.

3. Protecting the Environment

Our trails wind through some of the most pristine landscapes in the Andes, and we are committed to preserving them. We adhere strictly to the "leave no trace" principles: all waste is properly disposed of, single-use plastics are avoided, and biodegradable soaps and cleaning products are utilized during camping treks. Campsites are selected with environmental concerns in mind to prevent erosion, and group sizes are kept small to minimize impact on the environment. We also organize regular cleanup campaigns along popular routes and encourage our guests to participate.

4. Education for a Better Future

We believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for positive change. In 2023, we established a community library in Chinchero, offering children access to books, computers, and the internet,  resources they rarely have at home. We also offer workshops on a variety of subjects, including environmental awareness, digital literacy, and English language learning. Many of our travelers choose to visit the library and bring school supplies, helping connect tourism directly to educational opportunities.

5. Responsible Adventure

Adventure travel should never compromise environmental integrity or the well-being of local communities. To ensure safety, preserve natural trails, and provide a more intimate experience for our guests, we limit group sizes. Smaller groups also allow our guides to provide more personalized attention, address your questions, and facilitate a deeper connection with the landscapes and cultures you encounter. Every excursion is meticulously planned to strike a balance between excitement and sustainability, ensuring that future generations will also have the opportunity to experience the same awe-inspiring routes that you have today.

When you travel with Qoricancha Expeditions, you have the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of Peru's landscapes, the empowerment of its people, and the conservation of its history. Your journey leaves more than footprints; it leaves a legacy.
