What to Pack for Rainbow Mountain ATV Tour
Get ready for a high-altitude ride through the rugged Andes. It can be cold, windy, and dusty, so packing the right gear will help you enjoy the trip.
Clothing and Riding Gear
Dress in warm layers like thermals and a jacket or fleece. It gets very cold in the early mornings, especially at elevations above 4,000 meters.
Windproof jacket A windproof jacket is essential for ATV riding because the wind can be intense when you are moving fast.
Comfortable pants (trekking or sports) Choose flexible pants that work well for both riding and short walks.
Closed shoes or hiking boots These will protect your feet and help you stay steady on uneven ground.
Protection from Sun & Dust
Sunglasses Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from strong UV rays and dust while riding.
Buff, neck gaiter, or scarf It is essential to use a buff, neck gaiter, or scarf to protect yourself from dust during the ATV ride.
Sunscreen The sun’s intensity increases at high altitude.
Lip balm Cold, dry air at high altitude can quickly cause chapped lips.
Essentials
Small daypack (backpack) A small daypack makes it simple to carry your personal items.
Water (1.5 – 2 liters) Staying hydrated is especially important when you’re at higher altitudes.
Snacks (energy bars, nuts, chocolate) Snacks like these help you keep your energy up all day.
Cash (optional) You might want some cash for small purchases or extra services along the way.
Optional but Recommended
Gloves They help keep your hands warm and give you a better grip when riding the ATV.
Camera or smartphone The scenery is incredible, so you’ll definitely want to take some photos.
This tour reaches over 5,000 meters (16,400+ ft)
Even if you’re not hiking, the altitude and wind can be tough. Dress warmly and cover your face.

Can I book as a Private tour ?
Yes, the Rainbow Mountain ATV Tour can absolutely be organized as a private tour!
You can enjoy the flexibility of a more personalized experience, where the tour is tailored to your group’s preferences and pace, with exclusive attention from the guide.
Pricing for Private Tours:
2-3 People: $250 per person
4-5 People: $200 per person
6-7 People: $170 per person
8 or more People: $150 per person
The price is based on group size, so the more people in your group, the lower the price per person. This pricing ensures that the tour is accessible to various group sizes, while still maintaining the high quality of the experience.
This tour is considered moderate. While the quad bike eliminates the physical strain of the 2-hour uphill hike, you are still operating a vehicle at extreme altitudes. No prior ATV experience is required as our guides provide a full safety briefing, but you should be comfortable handling a motorized vehicle on rugged, dirt terrain.
To ensure you beat the large trekking crowds, we pick you up from your Cusco hotel between 4:00 AM and 4:30 AM. Because the ATV ride is faster than hiking, the total duration is approximately 8 – 9 hours, typically returning you to Cusco by late afternoon.
While a formal motorcycle license isn't required, you must be a confident driver and at least 18 years old to operate your own quad bike. Younger travelers can often join as passengers on a double ATV with an adult.
The summit of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) sits at 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). Even though you are riding an ATV, the thin air still affects your body. We strictly recommend at least two days of acclimatization in Cusco before starting this tour.
The wind and dust on a quad bike make it feel much colder than hiking. We recommend the onion method (layering): a thermal base, a windproof jacket, and a neck gaiter or buff to protect your face from dust.
Essential gear includes sunglasses (to block wind/dust), high-SPF sunblock, and sturdy closed-toe shoes.
Yes. Our all-inclusive ATV tour covers round-trip transport, the quad bike rental, safety gear (helmet and gloves), entrance fees for Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley, and both breakfast and lunch.
Safety is our core focus. Riding an ATV reduces physical exertion, which helps prevent Soroche (altitude sickness), but it doesn't eliminate the risk. Our guides carry medical-grade oxygen and pulse oximeters to monitor your levels at 5,200 meters, ensuring you stay safe throughout the ride.
Absolutely. We provide a high-energy buffet that can be tailored for vegan, gluten-free, or specific allergy requirements. Please let us know at the time of booking so we can prepare your meals accordingly.
The ATV tour is often a preferred option for those worried about the physical toll of the trek. However, due to the bumpy terrain and altitude, we recommend this for children over 8 years old and seniors in good health. It is the best way to see the Peruvian Andes without the cardiovascular strain of a high-altitude climb.

Best Cusco Tour Packages – 5 Days in Cusco & Machu Picchu
We had a wonderful couple of days on this trip. The trek on the first day was fab- 500-600m of ascent through jungle with orchids and other exotic plants. Chef prepared lunch on the mountain was a lovely surprise. Our guide, Aldo, was charming, amenable and knowledgeable. Arriving at the sun gate for the first view of Machu Picchu was amazing . And great to have the opportunity to return on the second day to visit close up and learn more about the site.

Amazing!
Amazing! We booked our short Inca Trail hike with Qoricancha Expeditions, and it was a great experience. Upon booking online, we were immediately contacted via email to confirm our details. Ronaldo and our guide, Simon, met with us the day before our departure to provide an overview and set expectations. Simon was a great guide - very personable and knowledgeable. I appreciate that he grew up in the area and speaks the native language (in addition to Spanish and English). The climb was difficult for me, but Simon was very patient and encouraging. I observed some of the other companies rushing their groups. We did not feel that way and had adequate time to enjoy. I highly recommend booking with Qoricancha Expeditions!

Amazing 2 day Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu Tour
Our 2 day Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour was amazing and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. We began in the Sacred Valley by visiting a local alpaca farm, where we saw llamas, alpacas, a condor and even guinea pigs. This fun and unique stop helped us appreciate Andean culture even more.
Next, we visited Pisac an impressive Inca site high in the mountains. The views were stunning and our guide Victor made the visit special with his knowledge and clear explanations about the site's history and importance. His passion made the ruins feel alive.
After that, we had a tasty buffet lunch at a local restaurant in Urubamba. In the afternoon we explored Ollantaytambo, a beautiful Inca town with huge stone terraces and an interesting history. Later, we took the train to Aguas Calientes and stayed overnight at La Jaya Machu Picchu Hotel. The hotel was very comfortable and even had a jacuzzi, which was a great way to relax before our visit to Machu Picchu.
On the second day, we visited Machu Picchu. It was cloudy at first, but after waiting a bit, the weather cleared and we got amazing views of the citadel. Victor was patient and gave us a great walking tour, explaining the history, architecture and mysteries of Machu Picchu in detail.
In the afternoon, we took the 1:30 pm train back to Ollantaytambo, where our driver Juan met us at the station. He drove us safely back to our hotel in Cusco, making the trip back simple and stress-free.
This tour was well organized, informative and truly unforgettable. Thank you to Qoricancha Expeditions Victor, Juan and the whole team for giving us such a great experience. They are professional, friendly and we highly recommend them.
