The Short Inca Trail to Machu picchu 2 days is a shorter alternative to the classic 4-day trek and is designed for those with limited time or those who prefer a less strenuous hike. is a popular option for travelers who want to experience the beauty and history of the Inca Trail but have limited time or physical capabilities.

This shorter trek is less physically demanding than the full 4-day Inca Trail, making it accessible to a wider range of travelers. It still offers a taste of the stunning Andean landscape and the awe-inspiring ruins of Machu Picchu. This Inca Trail Express is rich in flora and fauna and rich in history. The 1-day hike is 12 kilometers long, starting at 2,000 meters/6,560 feet and topping out at 2,720 meters/8,924 feet.

When you embark on our 1-day Inca Trail trek, you will experience a train journey along the Urubamba River through the foothills of the Andes to the start of the trek, known as km 104. Then hike the short Inca Trail and visit the citadel of Machu Picchu! The trail passes through the national park, the Wiñay Wayna archaeological site, and enters through the Puerta del Sol (Sun gate) for unforgettable views of the majestic Machu Picchu. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, take a private guided tour to see all the hidden corners of the Inca monument.

Important details about the hike:

  • FREQUENCY: This tour is run during the whole year.( except February becuase inca Trail is closed due to the Maintenance )

  • Difficulty: moderate, Inca trail is about 6h hike, the first section is way up which makes adventure the hike.
  • Permits: It's important to note that permits for the Short Inca Trail to Machu picchu 2 days are limited and must be obtained well in advance. Additionally, while this trek is shorter and less physically demanding than the 4-day version, it still involves hiking at high altitudes, so it's essential to be adequately prepared and acclimatized to the altitude in Cusco before embarking on the trek.

Weather: Cusco experiences a distinct wet and dry season, with the dry season (May to September) being the most popular time for tourists due to its clear skies and pleasant temperatures. The wet season (October to April) sees more rain but is still visited by travelers. Regardless of the season, it's important to be prepared for altitude-related challenges and potential weather fluctuations when visiting Cusco and its nearby attractions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hike short Inca Trail to Machu picchu.

Morning Departure: Our trekking tour guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4am, then is 2h driving to Ollantaytambo train station, from there we will take a train to Km 104, which is where your hike on the Inca Trail begins. there is an oficial check point where rangers from National park are veriryfing the passport details, you must take your original passport.

Hike to Wiñay Wayna: The hike starts with a visit to the archaeological site of Chachabamba. From there, you'll continue along the trail, passing through beautiful scenery and Inca ruins. Your final destination for the day is Wiñay Wayna, a stunning Inca site nestled in the mountains. You'll have time to explore the ruins and learn about their history, after that that you will enjoy the lunch.

Hike to Sun Gate (Inti Punku): After visiting Wiñay Wayna, you'll continue along the trail until you reach the Sun Gate, also known as Inti Punku. This is where you'll get your first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu from above.

Descend to Machu Picchu: From the Sun Gate, you'll descend into Machu Picchu itself. You'll have the opportunity to see and enjoy the best views to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the guide will give you a fully introduction about the history and significance of this ancient Inca citadel.

Overnight in Aguas Calientes: After you enjoy the best views to Machu Picchu, you'll take a bus down to Aguas Calientes, the town located at the base of Machu Picchu. Here, you'll check into your accommodation for the night. then we will have dinner in one of the nice restaurnt in the town.

Day 2: Machu picchu and back to Cusco.

Today marks the pinnacle of our journey, and it begins with an early breakfast. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel, and together, you'll catch one of the early buses that ascend to Machu Picchu. Upon arriving at Machu Picchu, your guide will lead you to the upper part of the citadel, where you'll have the privilege of witnessing the sunrise (season-dependent). This moment offers the perfect opportunity to capture some of the most breathtaking photographs of Machu Picchu. Take your time to soak in the magic and majesty that this New Wonder of the World has to offer.

Following the sunrise experience, our walking tour begins. Led by your expert guide, you'll explore the most significant sectors and palaces within the Machu Picchu complex. This guided tour typically lasts around 2.5 hours, providing you with invaluable insights into the history and architecture of this ancient site.

If you've secured a Huayna Picchu ticket, you'll have the option to embark on the renowned Huayna Picchu hike. This challenging but rewarding trek takes approximately 2 hours to complete, offering unparalleled views and a unique perspective of Machu Picchu. Please note that Huayna Picchu tickets need to be booked in advance and cost $75 each.

For those without a Huayna Picchu ticket, you can bid farewell to the Lost City of the Incas until your next visit. Afterward, you'll descend by bus to Aguas Calientes town. Here, you'll enjoy your final group lunch (not included) before taking an afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo. Our driver will be waiting for you in Ollantaytambo to safely transport you back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 8 pm. This day promises a culmination of unforgettable experiences and memories.
